The WVYS Concerto Competition is open to any current member of the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony. The winners of the concerto competition will play with the orchestra on one of our concerts. On average, judges select three winners following the live auditions and WVYS staff will announce the performance dates according to repertoire considerations.
For this competition, students are expected to perform their selection by memory. If you are interested in competing, Dr. Wild will need to approve your piece prior to Labor Day in September. Email him using c.wild@wvys.org for approval and include the complete title of the piece you want to play (include which movement, key, opus number, etc) and the composer’s name. Your selection must be for solo instrument (not necessarily the instrument you play in WVYS), with standard orchestration and availability. It should be no longer than 15 minutes in complete length – usually one movement of a concerto. If a composition is a rental, WVYS policy is the student/parents pay any cost above $500.
