No one is turned away for lack of funds. If you need financial assistance to participate in the WVYS, please email the treasurer.
Rehearsals
The WVYS rehearses weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 in West Lafayette, Indiana. Players will receive an email prior to each rehearsal regarding location and any other updates.
FAQs
Follow the instructions on our Auditions page and submit your video audition and registration form by August 31. Audition requirements are posted on our website in July each year. Students’ auditions are adjudicated by a panel of professional musicians that are all external to our community of teachers and students.
Our current tuition for String players is $475 for the full year. Winds (flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons and French horns) have a tuition rate of $400 and the other Brass and Percussion instruments have an annual tuition of $325. No student will be turned away from our orchestra because of an inability to pay tuition. Each student may pay their tuition through donations and/or contributions from family members. We also have a healthy fund for awarding financial aid – you just have to ask!
Tuition includes: over 70 hours of rehearsal time with a professional conductor and professional coaches and three concerts which are free and open to the public. The students get the valuable experience of rehearsing and performing original, unabridged masterpieces of the standard orchestral repertoire in a full symphony orchestra. This breaks down to a cost of about $6 an hour.

A season usually includes three full length concerts, typically held in November, February, and May.
